What's included?

  • General urinalysis processed in the clinic
  • Symptom evaluation and medical consultation
  • Diagnosis of urinary tract infection
  • Same-day treatment, with prescription and instructions in Spanish
  • Urine culture when infections keep coming back
  • Recommendations to prevent recurrence

What are the symptoms of a urinary tract infection?

The most common are burning or pain when urinating, a constant urge to go even when little urine comes out, cloudy, dark or foul-smelling urine, pain or pressure in the lower abdomen and, sometimes, blood in the urine. In older adults it may show up only as confusion or general malaise. If you have one or more of these symptoms, it is worth getting a urine test the same day.

How is it diagnosed?

With a general urinalysis processed in the clinic during your visit, so the doctor reviews the result with you in the same consultation. If infections keep coming back or don't improve with treatment, a urine culture is sent to identify the bacteria and choose the right antibiotic.

Is treatment the same day?

Yes. If the test confirms the infection, the doctor prescribes treatment in the same visit and explains how to take it. It is important to complete the full course even if symptoms disappear after two or three days; stopping early makes the infection more likely to return.

When should I go to the ER instead of the clinic?

Go to an emergency room if, along with urinary symptoms, you have a high fever or chills, severe back or flank pain, nausea or vomiting, or if you are pregnant and have symptoms. Those signs may mean the infection has reached the kidneys and needs immediate care.

How much do the urine test and treatment cost without insurance?

You don't need health insurance. We offer self-pay pricing and tell you the cost before your visit; we accept cash and cards. On the promotions page we usually have packages from $69 that include a urine test and medical consultation. Promotional prices may change; call us to confirm.

How do I keep it from coming back?

Drink enough water during the day, don't hold your urine, urinate after sex, wipe from front to back and avoid douching or irritating products. If you get three or more infections a year, we look for the cause during the visit and consider a prevention plan. If you also have discharge or itching, see our gynecology service.
