What does the exam check?

• Vision, with and without glasses, including side vision
• Hearing, to make sure you can pick up a soft voice at a set distance
• Blood pressure and pulse
• A urine sample to look for sugar, protein and blood
• Your history: illnesses, surgeries and medications
• A general check of lungs, heart, abdomen, spine and reflexes

What should I bring?

• Your driver's license
• Your glasses, contacts or hearing aids if you use them
• A list of your medicines with names and doses
• Recent notes or lab results from whoever treats your diabetes, sleep apnea or heart condition

What if my blood pressure is high?

It doesn't always mean you fail. Depending on the reading, the certificate may be issued for a shorter period so you come back for a recheck, or the medical team may ask you to get your pressure under control and return. Nerves and long hours behind the wheel often push it up; resting a few minutes before the reading helps. If you need treatment, you can start blood pressure care right here.

How long is the certificate good for?

Up to two years if everything checks out, and less when you have a condition that needs follow-up, such as high blood pressure or diabetes. The expiration date is printed on the certificate, so mark it down to avoid being sidelined.

Does your employer need anything else?

If they also ask for an alcohol and drug test, mention it when you arrive and we'll see whether both can be done in the same visit.
