Which wounds do we follow up on?

• Large scrapes from bike, motorcycle or on-the-job falls
• Minor burns from the stove or an iron
• Stitched wounds that need a check or removal
• Wounds left by a minor surgery or a drainage
• Ulcers or sores on the legs and feet that have stayed open a long time

What happens at each visit?

We take off the old dressing, wash and disinfect the wound and look it over carefully: the color of the edges, any drainage, a bad smell or more redness than last time. Then we put on a suitable dressing and let you know when to come back for the next check.

Why do some wounds refuse to heal?

Diabetes, poor circulation, smoking, constant pressure on the area or a hidden infection can all slow healing. If any of that applies to you, the medical team factors it in, may check your blood sugar and, when needed, helps arrange a referral to a specialist.

How do you look after it between visits?

• Scrub up with soap and water before you handle the dressing
• Swap the dressing for a fresh, dry one whenever it gets soaked or stained
• Don't put homemade ointments on it without asking first
• Finish any medication you were given

When shouldn't you wait for the next visit?

If you get a fever, the skin around it turns red and warm farther and farther out, pus appears or the pain gets worse instead of better, come back early; if you feel very sick, go to the ER. For routine checks, stop by our Kuykendahl Rd office any day from 9 AM to 9 PM, and we'll tell you the cost of each dressing visit up front.
