Women's Health in North Houston: Which Checkup Fits Each Stage of Life and How to Choose
Pap tests, pelvic ultrasound, intimate cultures, STD testing, and birth control in Spanish or English: which checkup fits your life stage and its cost.
The checkup a woman needs depends on her age and on what's going on in her body. A routine visit at 25 looks very different from a visit for unusual discharge or for menopause changes. Clínica Hispana Cruz 2 offers basic gynecology in Spanish and English, walk-in, with direct-pay prices, so you can pick the checkup that fits.
The clinic's medical team put this guide together to help you get oriented before your visit: what's worth checking at each stage, which symptoms deserve attention, and what each package includes.
What women's health services are available here?
Our gynecology service covers the most common reasons women come in:
- Pap tests and women's wellness checkups.
- Cultures and vaginal infections.
- Guidance on birth control.
- Pregnancy testing.
- Testing for sexually transmitted diseases.
- Pelvic ultrasound as part of the checkup with ultrasound.
If a result comes back abnormal, we walk you through what comes next.
What should you check at each stage of life?
Ages 21 to 29
This is when Pap testing starts. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends cervical cytology every three years for most women in this age group. It's also a good time to settle on a birth control method that works for you, and to get STD testing when there's a new partner.
Ages 30 to 65
You have more options here. The same task force lists cytology every three years, HPV testing every five years, or both together every five years. Which one suits you depends on your previous results. Questions about irregular periods, pelvic pain, or plans to get pregnant also tend to come up at this stage, and a pelvic ultrasound can add useful information.
Around menopause and after
Hot flashes, broken sleep, vaginal dryness, and periods that grow farther apart are expected changes, but you don't have to put up with them without asking. A hormone panel can help explain what's happening, and breast checks become more important. If you're due for a mammogram, we'll point you to where you can get one.
Which symptoms shouldn't you ignore?
Some problems become "normal" just because nobody ever checks them. Come in if you notice:
- Discharge that changes in smell, color, or amount, or itching that keeps coming back.
- Bleeding between periods or after sex.
- Pelvic pain that won't go away or keeps getting worse.
- A lump or change in your breast or armpit.
- A late period and questions about a possible pregnancy.
- A possible exposure to a sexually transmitted infection, even with no symptoms.
If you have heavy bleeding with dizziness, severe abdominal pain, or a high fever, go to an emergency room.
Which package should you choose, and what does it cost?
These are the packages on our current flyers and what each one includes:

Why does care in your own language matter?
Talking about intimate health is hard enough already. Doing it in a language you're not comfortable in makes it harder. Here you can describe symptoms in your own words, ask about anything that isn't clear, and leave knowing what was done and what happens next. What you share during the visit stays between you and the team.
